FES

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a technology which is frequently used within addult rehabilitation, and more recently children. It’s often used when patients who require treatment to confitions affecting their central nervous system such as Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, MS or Brain Injury.

What is FES?

FES is a technique that uses low-energy electrical pulses to artificially generate body movements by stimulating weakend muscles when a patient is unable to do so. Common applications are to reduce foot drop post stroke, or to improve hand function. It’s not painful, and you are able to buy devices which you can wear under your clothing every day. Here at NPP Neuro Group we have a Cylclone FES bike (RT300) which patients can trial and use to augment their rehabilition where appropriate.
